This site aims to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. It is a small site run by one person, so this page describes the actual state of things rather than making a blanket claim of compliance.
What has been done
- Semantic structure. Real headings in order, real lists, real tables with header cells, and one main landmark per page — so screen readers and reader modes can navigate properly.
- Keyboard navigation. Every link, button and form field is reachable by keyboard, with a visible focus outline that is not removed.
- Skip link. A "skip to content" link is the first thing on every page, so keyboard and screen-reader users can bypass the navigation.
- Contrast. Body text, headings and interface text are set to meet or exceed the AA contrast ratio against their backgrounds.
- Resizable text. Type is set in relative units and the layout reflows rather than breaking when text is enlarged or the page is zoomed.
- Reduced motion. Hover movement and smooth scrolling are switched off automatically if your system is set to reduce motion.
- Decorative graphics hidden. The moon phase illustrations are marked as decorative so screen readers skip them rather than announcing meaningless shapes.
- Described images. Images that carry meaning, such as the shareable pins, have alternative text.
- Labeled forms. Every form field has a real associated label, and the sign-up form announces its result to assistive technology.
- Line length and spacing. Body text is capped at a comfortable measure with generous line height, which helps most readers and particularly helps some readers a great deal.
Where it falls short
Stated honestly, because a list of only good news is not useful.
- The site has not been through a formal third-party accessibility audit.
- It has been checked with keyboard navigation and automated tools, but not tested with every screen reader and browser combination.
- Pages that redirect from the older version of the site were written before this standard was adopted and may not fully meet it.
- External sites linked from here, including checkout pages, are outside my control and set their own standards.
